iPhone App and Internet Etiquette

When writing about an iPhone application online, should you link to the iTunes page of the application or to the developers page? I’m going to go with the former since the iTunes Store lacks a lot of information about each individual application. Also, that seems to be the tactic of most writers I read that I respect. But that means you developers out there should have a link to your apps iTunes page prominently displayed on every facet of your site (put it in the header!).

Take Kottke for instance, who posted about PhotoSwap. What a great idea. And how are they not charging 99 cents for this app? It is photo serendipity. Easily worth 99 cents. If Britney Spears can charge 99 cents for “Ooops I did it again” or whatever, most decent apps should cost the same.

Regarding etiquette, the developer does not have a prominent link to their App Store page. I had to just click over to the store and do a search, which is dangerous. iTunes gives me a lot of hits for “photo swap” which could have pulled me in all sorts of directions, which the iTunes Store is known to do. The app is free, so maybe the point is moot in this case, but others: take heed.
